Amsterdam, is a cosmopolitan, welcoming and laid back city that offers a wealth of things to see and do. Choose one of the following included Scenic FreeChoice tours: (1) a sightseeing canal cruise through the city’s 17th century architecture in a glass-top boat (2) travel to North Holland’s seaside village of Volendam, stopping also in Edam to sample the delicacies of its namesake. Enjoy some free time in Amsterdam before sailing for Cologne. This evening relax and enjoy the Captain’s Welcome Dinner.
Welcome to historic Cologne, the fourth largest city in Germany. Cologne is a city where history, tradition, art and culture mix with characteristic Rhineland charm and people famous for their zest for life. Its refreshing local beer, Kôlsch, is not to be missed. The town’s abundance of cultural monuments and historic buildings, cosy lanes and narrow alleyways, and its relaxed and happy atmosphere of its squares and river promenades make Koblenz a friendly town where its guests feel right at home. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture the spectacular scenery, with its stunning vistas of castles sitting high above steep vine-covered slopes, as we head for Rüdesheim. This evening enjoy a special musical performance onboard.
All aboard the ‘Winzerexpress’ this morning bound for Siegfrieds Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, where you’ll enjoy an included guided tour of the many rooms of this fabulous museum complete with demonstrations. Then take a cable car ride to the Niederwald Monument, perched 250 metres above the Rhine River offering stunning panoramas of the local scenery. Alternatively, explore this charming town independently with your personal Scenic Tailormade device. Take the Rüdesheim cable car over steep vine-covered fields to the Niederwald Monument, where you will enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Rhine Valley. Returning to Rüdesheim town, you’ll find delicious wines and wonderful architecture to explore.
Today choose from one of the following included Scenic FreeChoice activities: (1) take a guided tour of the romantic and picturesque city of Heidelberg, home to Europe’s oldest university, including a visit to the historic Heidelberg Castle and Baroque style Old Town (2) visit the magnificent baroque Schwetzingen Castle, summer residence of the Palatine Court.
Today, the choice is yours, step into France or head in the opposite direction where Germany awaits. Choose from one of the following included Scenic FreeChoice activities: (1) a visit to the stunning Alsace Wine Region of France is a truly memorable experience. We’ll stop in the pearl of this region, Colmar, for a visit to a local winery to sample the delicious local wines in an incredibly pretty setting (2) step inside the setting of the fable, Hansel and Gretel, on your tour to the spectacularly beautiful Black Forest region in Germany. Delight your senses at the Vogtsbauernhof open air museum and tantalise your taste buds with a slice of delicious Black Forest gâteau. Instead, you may wish to explore the fascinating 4,000-year history of Breisach, from the Stone Age to the present day, with your personal Scenic Tailormade device. Visit Rheintor, one of Germany’s finest surviving Baroque fortress towers, as well as a small vineyard and the 600-year-old cellars found beneath Breisach Castle. After breakfast, transfer* to the airport for your flight home: fly to your choice of 15 UK regional airports via Amsterdam with KLM or travel with British Airways to London Heathrow. Alternatively, travel by first class rail from Basel to Paris. Change stations in Paris and travel Standard Premier aboard Eurostar to St. Pancras International.
